Antoniucci Volti (1915–1989) - Lot 170
Antoniucci Volti (1915–1989) Seated Female Nude with Arms Crossed Bronze with green patina Signed “VOLTI” Bears a foundry stamp “CIRE / A. VALSUANI / PERDUE” (difficult to read) below the left hip Numbered “4/6” H. 18.5 cm We would like to thank Mr. Nicolas Antoniucci, the heir of Antoniucci Volti, who, based on photographic documentation, authenticated this work by Volti via email on October 27, 2026. Originally from Italy, the Volti family settled in France in 1920. Antoniucci Volti studied at the École des Arts Décoratifs in Nice before enrolling at the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris and winning the Second Grand Prix de Rome in 1936. In the aftermath of World War II, during which he was held as a prisoner of war in Bavaria for three years, the young sculptor broke away from his academic training, following in the footsteps of the great names of 20th-century art such as Picasso, Matisse, and Maillol, and developed a more personal style. His primary source of inspiration is the female figure. The artist explores the female body in various poses—sometimes standing, sitting, or reclining. Through lines that are both fluid and geometric, voluptuous forms, and structured faces featuring almond-shaped eyes, Volti conveys a sense of serenity, joy, and harmony.
