Stains The Meschede prisoner-of-war camp was, during the First World War, a large camp designed to house Entente prisoners of war in Meschede, in Sauerland, a mountainous region southeast of the present-day state of North Rhine-Westphalia. (As a reminder, the Entente was a military alliance between France, the United Kingdom and the Russian Empire). Camp e Darmstadt was located on a vast maneuver field a few kilometers from the town of Darmstadt, in Hesse, in west-central Germany. It consisted of large wooden barracks arranged in groups of ten to accommodate a battalion. The camp was surrounded by a network of wire, and each battalion (a group of 10 barracks) was in turn surrounded by wire.
