Maria PERGAY (1930-2023) - Lot 238
Maria PERGAY (1930-2023) S desk, designed in 1968 L-shaped base, S-shaped top, partially covered with leather for the writing surface Some stains on the base 73 x 197.5 x 105.5 cm Provenance: collection of American architect and decorator Constantin Vichey (1933-2026), then by descent Bibliography: Suzanne Demisch, Stéphane Danant, Maria Pergay Complete works, 1957-2010, Bologna, Damiani editore, 2011, a similar model reproduced on pages 105 and 106 under reference 16. This desk was acquired in New York in the early 1970s from Harvey Probber, Maria Pergay's distributor in the United States, for the decor that Constantin Vichey created for the home of his father Luben Vichey and his mother-in-law Anna Vichey, for which he also designed the plans, in Lakeville, New Jersey. The architecture of this house and its interior design were the subject of several publications in the specialized press in the United States, and a photographic report from the time of construction by Joseph Kugielsky, shows the desk and its stool in situ. After the couple's death, Constantin Vichey brought the set back to France, first to furnish a family home in the Gard region, then to his personal residence in Bordeaux, where it remained until his death.
