Ferdinand Parpan (1902-2004) Saint John the Baptist Model created in 1955 Bronze with green-brown patina Signed with the monogram "F.P" and dated "55". Numbered "E.A. 0 H. 27 cm Trained in his father's workshop as an ornamental sculptor, Ferdinand Parpan assisted him in the 1920s before receiving his first religious commissions around 1930. Gradually, his art became more stripped-down, in search of the essential line, after having been influenced by Cubist sculpture in particular. From the 1950s-1960s, Ferdinand Parpan devoted part of his work to sacred art. He responded to numerous commissions to decorate churches and took part in several exhibitions dedicated to Sacred Art in France and Germany.
