Léopold Kretz (1907-1990) Child's head Bronze with brown patina Signed and dated "L. Kretz / 1933" on the back of the neck Bears the founder's stamp "CIRE / C. VALSUANI / PERDUE " H. 30 cm, on a black Belgian marble base H. 15 cm In 1931, Léopold Kretz, a native of Lwow in Poland, won a scholarship to study sculpture in Paris. He attended the workshops of Landowski and Gaumont at the École supérieure nationale des Beaux-Arts, then Bourdelle at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière. During his career, Kretz rubbed shoulders with the great names in statuary, such as Brancusi and Maillol. He exhibited regularly at the Salons d'Automne and des Tuileries, and received several official commissions. Our portrait is probably the bronze Tête d'enfant presented at the Salon des Tuileries in 1933 under number 1366. Related literature -Annick Barré, Rétrospective Kretz, cat. exp.
