Berthe Martinie (1883-1958) Seated woman holding her leg Sanguine on paper Signed (lower left) : Berthe Martinie 44 x 33 cm Sculptor and painter Berthe Martinie belonged to the group of independent figurative sculpture for her quest for truth, her dedication to the task and her artistic principles. Her career took off in the 1920s: the French state bought her works and Parisian galleries organized monographic exhibitions. Like her contemporary Jane Poupelet, her favorite subjects were the female nude and animals.
