Paul Silvestre (1884-1976) The Sagittaire Circa 1940 Bronze medallion with shaded brown patina Signed "Silvestre Dedicated "À l'ami Ch. Lehmann bien cordialement" on the rim Bears the founder's mark "Susse Frs Fondrs Paris" and the words "cire perdue" around the rim Titled "LE SAGITTAIRE". Diam. 28.8 cm A student of Antonin Mercié and Antonin Carlès at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, Paul Silvestre exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1921. His sculptural work is strongly influenced by the "return to order" movement of the interwar period, which reinterprets a classical ideal.
