Charles DESPIAU (1874-1946) Nude man lying on his back Sanguine on paper Signed and dedicated lower right "To my friend François Debat". 24 x 37 cm Charles Despiau's drawing skills were studied by Michael Semff during an exhibition at Munich's Neue Pinakothek in 1998 (see Charles Despiau Zeichnungen, cat. exp., Munich, Neue Pinakothek, October 22, 1998 - January 3, 1999, Munich, Staatliche Graphische Sammlung, 1998). Since then, a fine collection has featured in the exhibition devoted to the artist by the Beelden-an-Zee Museum in The Hague and the Gerhard-Marcks-Haus Museum in Bremen (see Charles Despiau: sculpteur mal-aimé, cat. exp., Beelden-an-Zee Museum, The Hague, November 1, 2013 - January 26, 2014; Gerhard-Marcks-Haus, Bremen, February 9 - June 1, 2014 Zwolle: Waanders; Den Haag: Beelden-an-Zee Museum, 2013).
