Raymond Sudre (1870-1962) Woman leaning against architecture Circa 1930 White marble Signed "RAYMOND SUDRE H. 40.7 x W. 20.8 x D. 14 cm Born in Perpignan, son of a marble mason, Raymond Sudre trained at the Beaux-Arts in Paris, in the studios of Alexandre Falguière and Antonin Mercié. After winning the Second Grand Prix de Rome in 1900, he achieved real success at the 1902 Salon des Artistes Français with Helena, a Roussillon town dreaming of its ancient splendor. He was awarded the Prix Desprez for this work, as well as a travel grant enabling him to tour Europe, from Spain to the Netherlands, to perfect his style and training.
