Aimé-Jules Dalou (1838-1902) - Lot 102
Aimé-Jules Dalou (1838-1902) The embroiderer Created circa 1870; published by Hébrard from 1907. Signed "DALOU Stamped "CIRE / PERDUE / A.A. HEBRARD". H. 29 cm Presented at the 1870 Salon, La Brodeuse was Aimé-Jules Dalou's first success. Representing the intimacy of women in their daily lives, a theme dear to the sculptor, a marble version was commissioned by the French government. The 1870 war interrupted the project, and Dalou destroyed the unfinished marble ten years later. In 1871, the sculptor decided to publish the model. Although there were a few rare reductions produced by Eugène Legrain, the majority of bronze prints were made by the Hébrard foundry.
