Aimé-Jules Dalou (1838 - 1902) Palm Sunday in Boulogne Model created in 1872; Circa 1910 Terracotta proof Signed "DALOU Label "BRINTON Collection / 125" inside H. 60 cm Provenance: Felix Joubert (1872-1953), sculptor; by descent Dalou was in exile in England at the time because of his support for the Communards, and exhibited for the first time at the Royal Academy in 1872. He presented a figure of a young peasant girl entitled Jour des Rameaux à Boulogne. The terracotta was acquired by painter and patron George Howard (1843-1911), who commissioned Dalou to paint a portrait of his wife the same year. Our fine terracotta print belonged to the sculptor and decorator Félix Joubert, whose prestigious collection is largely preserved at the Musée des Beaux-arts in Nice.
