CARRIER BELLEUSE Titled "CIGALE / Par Carrier-Belleuse" in a cartouche on the front H. 69 cm Inspired by Jean de la Fontaine's fable, Carrier-Belleuse presents, in the guise of a female allegory, the Cicada singing and playing the mandolin. She forms the counterpart to the Ant, depicted spinning her wool.
