Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse (1824-1887) - Lot 69
Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse (1824-1887) Rembrandt van Rijn and Albrecht Dürer Pair of petite nature busts in silver-plated bronze Signed "A. CARRIER" on the back H. 39 cm and H. 40 cm, on black and red griotte marble veneer bases On his return from England in 1855, Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse produced numerous busts and statuettes of historicist figures, artists and musicians. Among these personalities, he paired the famous Flemish painter Rembrandt with the German Renaissance artist Albrecht Dürer. The success of these models led Théodore Deck to produce these busts in earthenware. Two examples were shown at the great Central Union exhibition of 1863.
