Jean-Jacques dit James Pradier (1790-1852) Standing Sapho, variant, without offerings Model created in 1848 Circa 1850 Edition plaster Signed "PRADIER 1848" on the column and stamped "PRADIER" on a brass insert Bears a brass insert "SALVATOR MARCHI / MOUR ET ÉDITEUR / DE MUR PRADIER / PARIS". Carries a label on the underside H. 34 cm Related works: -James Pradier and Salvator Marchi, Sapho, 1848, patinated plaster, H. 45.5 x W. 22 x D. 18.5 cm, Geneva, Musée d'art et d'histoire, inv. 1910-02-09 Although the publishing of James Pradier's statuettes in all materials was mainly entrusted to the publisher Susse, from the late 1830s onwards, the molder Salvator Marchi obtained permission from the sculptor to publish several models in plaster. After the artist's death, Marchi continued to produce and market them. The master models were donated by the publisher's widow to the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Geneva.
