François SICARD (1862-1934) Portrait of Jérome Bertagna (1843-1903) Model created circa 1907 Signed "F. SICARD Bears the founder's mark "F. BARBEDIENNE". H. 25 cm, on a griotte red marble and gilded bronze base A pupil of Ernest Barrias and Félix Laurent, François Sicard won the Prix de Rome in 1891 for his group Apollon chante au milieu des bergers. On his return to France, Sicard embarked on an official career and was entrusted with the realization of numerous monuments. He became Georges Clémenceau's appointed sculptor, creating several of his portraits.
