Maasai shield, Kenya Leather and rattan H. 113 cm Provenance : - Collected by Howard C. Sykes Jr on safari in Kenya in 1932 - Potomak Auction, Alexandria, USA, April 21-22, 2012 - Private collection Large ovoid shield carved from a piece of animal hide encircled by rattan and decorated with beautiful polychromy. Note some old native repairs forming elegant seams in the leather.
