After a doctorate in law from the Sorbonne and a trip to Canada and South America, Salomé Vénard began training as a sculptor in 1936. Close to sculptors Robert Wlérick, Henri Laurens and Mateo Hernandez, she specialized in direct carving on stone and wood. A frequent visitor to Parisian artistic circles, she created a portrait of the poet Joe Bousquet. From 1954 onwards, she took on numerous public commissions as part of the "1% artistic" scheme.
