In 1904, Charles Malfray moved to Paris, on the Butte Montmartre, thanks to a ten-year pension from the city of Orléans. He entered the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts and frequented the circles of avant-garde artists. There he met Rodin and Ségonzac, and befriended Maillol and Bourdelle.
