Trained at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Algiers, a pupil of Boucher in 1921 and a close friend of Despiau, Paul Belmondo's sculptural work displays a sober, academic aesthetic that won him great success in the 1930s. The full, round forms of Nu de femme à la serviette aspire to that return to serenity and simplicity embodied by Belmondo at a time of effervescence in sculpture between the wars.
