In 1931, the Mercure de France described the model of our bronze under the title La Source as "a young woman's body filling her amphora with exquisite grace and the most skilful architecture of line".
Originally from Strasbourg, Anna Bass trained with painter Fernand Pelez and sculptor Jane Poupelet. From 1911, she set up her studio in the artists' housing estate on rue Tourlaque in Paris's 18th arrondissement. Through drawing and sculpture, Anna Bass devoted herself mainly to the study of the female nude.
