Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux (1827-1875) La frileuse n°1 Model created in 1871 Bronze with light brown patina shaded with green Signed "JBte Carpeaux". Stamped "PROPRIETE CARPEAUX" with imperial eagle on rock Bears the founder's mark "F. CAMUS. PARIS " Bears the letters "EW" engraved inside H. 40 cm Full of vitality and sensuality, La frileuse was created in 1871, during Carpeaux's stay in London. It belongs to the repertoire of decorative female statuettes that the artist invented to compensate for the halt in official commissions during his exile.
