1/ - Naude, Gabriel. - Apologie pour les grands hommes soupçonnez de Magie. Dernière édition où l'on a ajouté quelques remarques... Amsterdam, Pierre Humbert, 1712. In-8 bound in full contemporary calf, spine ribbed, title-piece - headbands partly faded, spalls - [9 ff;], 470 pp. Beautiful allegorical frontispiece drawn and engraved by Lamsveld.
The author seeks to rehabilitate those great writers, philosophers and scholars who were interested in the occult, astrological or mathematical sciences, such as : Agrippa, Apollonius, Saint Thomas Aquinas, Aristotle, Artephius, Bacon, Democritus, Empedocles, Geber, Jamblique, Raymond Lulle, Nostradamus, Orpheus, Paracelsus, Plotinus, Numa Pompilius, Porphyry, Pythagoras, Socrates, Trithemus, Arnaud de Villeneuve, Zoroaster, etc. Dorbon (3227) believes that the author of the remarks added to this second edition could be the "witty Dutch bookseller Jean-Frédéric Bernard", to whom we owe the Éloge de l'Enfer.
