The history of this magazine began in London in 1864, where F.-.M. members opposed to Napoleon III had gone into exile. François Tafety and Prosper Simard founded "La Chaîne d'Union, Journal de la Maçonnerie Universelle", whose first issue appeared on 09/15/1864. On the death of Fr. Tafety, who had become the sole owner, the takeover by two F.M. was short-lived, and the last London edition appeared on 15/05/1869 (no. 108). The magazine's French correspondent, Esprit-Eugène HUBERT, took up the torch under the title "La Chaîne d'Union de Paris", with the first issue appearing on 1/06/1869. Publication ceased in 1889 with HUBERT's retirement. It wasn't until 1934 that Virgile GLOTON, having bought the title, brought back "La Chaine d'Union" with the dynamic help of his son Edmond. On the latter's death (1962), his daughter Denise took over the business until 1963, relaunching it in 1981, only to stop after 8 issues. "La Chaîne d'Union" reappeared in 1984 under the impetus of Paul-Henri Gourdot (Grand Master of the G.O.F.) and again with the help of Denise Gloton, under the aegis of "Éditions Maçonniques de France", and became "La Chaîne d'Union. Revue d'Études symboliques et Maçonniques du Grand Orient de France". In 2015, the magazine celebrated its 150th anniversary.
