Adhémar, Jean. - David, [Louis]. Birth of a painter's genius. Preface by Jean Cassou. Paris, Raoul Solar, 1953. In-folio in leaves under cover titled in gilt for the text: 83 pp. [7 pp. of which 5 are blank], accompanied by 289 reproductions of David's drawings, captioned and mounted on strong papier couleur lie de vie with gilt framing. The set is housed in a strong box lined with unbleached cloth, titled on the front cover in gilt lettering on imitation red morocco. The spine is adorned with a bronze medal representing David, specially struck in the Ateliers de la Monnaie, Paris, after the medallion of David d'Angers. Edition of 289 numbered copies (no. 98) on Johannot pur fil à la forme paper. Each work in this edition is enriched by an original drawing by Louis David from an auction held in Paris on 17/04/1826. Ours (no. 26 of this sale) corresponds to plate numbered 219, accompanied by its certificate of appraisal issued by André Schoeller on 28/06/1949.
