[Christofle - Gallia] - Watercolor on strong paper for a Chr - Lot 344
[Christofle - Gallia] - Watercolor on strong paper for a Christofle project. Framed piece 58.3 x 48.5 cm, under marie-louise à vue 44.5 x 34.6 cm . Horizontal fold in the middle of the sheet. Unsigned (not framed).
Architectural project for a metal structure with three levels of galleries resting on a double masonry vault serving as a display case for a bottle of champagne. On the third level, the elegant metal composition with its 4 double-scrolled feet supports 4 champagne glass-shaped holders. The bottle, surrounded by a metal latticework, ends at the muzzle with a final gallery. The openings leading to the galleries suggest that this was a building designed to receive the public.
The Gallia brand in gold lettering is placed in saltire on the shoulder of the bottle and repeated on the feet.
Pharaonic stand project for the World's Fair? An advertising project for the newly launched Gallia brand?
"Born with the 20th century, at the time of the famous 1900 Universal Exhibition in Paris, the Gallia Collection takes its name from a metal alloy that marked its era. Gallia, a name that refers to "Gaulle", and whose hallmark and symbol will be the cockerel, once again putting French innovation in the spotlight" (Christofle website).
