[Polo] - Reunion of 2 albums of polo documents. 1/ - Oblong brown half-maroquin photograph album with smooth spine stamped with the monogram "E.V." surmounted by a marquis's crown and dated "Polo 1892-1907". Contains 27 photographs mounted on strong cardboard (size 23 x 16.5 cm), including polo pony stables on rue Magdebourg in Paris in 1891 (3) - polo pony race at La Marche (4), ladies' prize (07/1891) - presentation of horses (13) - views of groups (5) including 2 with trophies. The photos are captioned in Spanish, as most of the participants were Spanish nobility (with indication of the participants). 2/ album of photographs and press articles mainly concerning polo: polo programs in Biarritz in 1922, 1923, 1926 and 1928 - 48 photographs of places, people, polo actions, horses,... - numerous press clippings concerning polo in the 1920s - invitations and letters addressed to the Marquis de Villavieja (5) - various letters in Spanish (6). All appear to have belonged to the Marquis de Villavieja. José Manuel Escandón marquis de Villavieja (August 13, 1857 - December 13, 1940) was a Mexican polo player at the 1900 Summer Olympics. He married a Spanish noblewoman and became the husband "Marquis of Villavieja", a title by which he was widely known. The Escandón brothers, Manuel, Eustaquio and Pablo, accompanied by Guillermo Hayden Wright, were Mexico's first Olympic medalists.
