Adolphe YVON (1817-1893) Scenes of the Russian and French infantry during the capture of Sebastopol in 1856 as part of the Crimean War. Set of nine drawings on paper. Signed and titled on the back. 18 x 17 cm; 23 x 17 cm and 38 x 27 cm The history painter Yvon studied in Paul Delaroche's studio. He devoted his painting to military events and battles, essential episodes in the Crimean War, for which he stayed on the Black Sea peninsula in 1856. Among his most famous paintings, The Battle of Kulikovo, exhibited at the 1849 Salon, was acquired by Tsar Alexander II in 1857.
