Henri Edouard Vernhes (1854-1901) From summit to abyss, the second side of life Black patina bronze Signed "H. Verhnes Bears the founder's mark "I.H.F. Fondeur Paris / COPYRIGHT BY H VENHE 1902". H. 67 cm This is a bronze reduction of the marble monument entitled Du sommet à l'abîme, le Second versant de la vie, commissioned from Henri Vernhes in 1903 and completed in 1906. The son of a master stonemason, Henri Vernhes trained with sculptor François Mahoux before joining François Jouffroy's studio at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 1875.
