Lucien Gibert (1904-1988) Reclining nude Pewter sculpture Signed "GIBERT. L " H. 25 x W. 41 x D. 9 cm, resting on a green marble base H. 3 cm After an introduction to cabinetmaking under his father, Lucien Gibert studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Saint-Etienne, then in Paris, in Jean Boucher's workshop. Inspired by Despiau and Maillol, Gibert moved towards a less academic style of art. From 1923, he exhibited at the Salon des artistes français and the Salon des Indépendants. He took on commissions for public monuments and produced numerous medals for the Monnaie de Paris, of which he became director.
