Charles Despiau (1874-1946) Bacchante at rest Patinated plaster Signed on the back "C despiau". 35 x 22.5 x 26 cm (without wooden base) Charles Despiau presented the original plaster Bacchante at the Salon de la Société nationale des Beaux-Arts in 1909. It was the first time he had exhibited a female nude. Several variants of this model, in plaster and bronze, were produced between 1909 and 1929. A bronze version of La Bacchante à la jambe levée is in the Musée Despiau-Wlérick in Mont-de-Marsans (Inv. MM16).
