Louis-Eugène Dejean (1872 -1954) - Lot 137
Louis-Eugène Dejean (1872 -1954) Female torso Workshop plaster with patina Signed on the side of the base "L.Dejean". 38 x 12 x 8 cm. Restorations Following his studies at the École des Arts Décoratifs, Louis Dejean joined the studio of sculptor Antonin Carlès, then that of Auguste Rodin. After the First World War, Dejean joined the "Schnegg Gang" (Halou, Despiau, Wlérick...), who advocated a return to Hellenic art, where calm reigned in contrast to Rodin's hectic sculpture. For the 1937 International Exhibition, he created a reclining nymph in stone for the Palais de Tokyo. Torse féminin recalls the fragmentary figures of Antiquity and is part of a series of studies on the theme of the female body. The Musée National d'Art Moderne holds a bronze example of Torse de Femme (LUX.509 S) dating from before 1930.
