Albert Bouquillon (1908-1997) Youth 1949 Patinated plaster Signed on the base "A.Bouquillon". 36 x 10 x 10 cm. Old restoration A native of Douai and the son of a painter and decorator, Albert Bouquillon trained with Injalbert and Bouchard at the École des Beaux- Arts de Paris. Awarded the Prix de Rome in 1934, his figurative art asserted itself in the 1950s. He exhibited regularly at the Salon de Mai, Salon d'Automne and Salon de la Jeune Sculpture, alongside Gestalder, Gili and Volti. He received numerous commissions, and his work was regularly acclaimed by critics at public exhibitions and galleries in Paris. In 2013, the town of Douai devoted a major retrospective to Jeunesse. The subject is depicted in terracotta, wood, bronze, stone, marble and plaster, and in different sizes, sometimes with variations. This graceful subject was presented at the Salon d'Automne in 1950, and a large bronze version has been installed in the Parc Charles Bertin in Douai since 1952.
