Pierre Bouret (1897-1972) La Source 1929 Plaster Signed and dedicated on the edge of the terrace "Pour notre amie Suzanne Pierre Bouret" ("For our friend Suzanne Pierre Bouret"). 19 x 12.5 x 15 cm. Born in Paris, Pierre Bouret trained with Paul Follot at the Cours Supérieurs d'Art Décoratif de Paris. He set up his studio close to that of his friend Charles Despiau, becoming his pupil and disciple in 1923. A practitioner for Maillol, Wlérick, Bernard, Pompon, Drivier, Malfray, Dejean and Despiau, Bouret mastered direct carving for public statuary. He received numerous public commissions. La Source, shown here in its first version in 1929, was produced in 7 bronze editions, one of which was acquired by the Musée de Mont-de-Marsan in 2004, followed by ten editions in terracotta and another series in plaster.
