André Bizette-Lindet (1906-1998) - Lot 117
André Bizette-Lindet (1906-1998) Reclining peasant woman on a straw bale Patinated terra cotta mounted on wood panel Signed on the upper edge "A Bizette". 64.6 x 39 x 17 cm. To be compared with the ornaments on the large front door of the Palais de Tokyo. Related literature: D'UCKERMAN Patris, Art in Modern Life, Paris, Flammarion, 1937. After winning the Grand Prix de Rome in 1930, Bizette-Lindet moved to Rome, where he stayed until 1935, at the Villa Médicis under the direction of Paul Landowski. On his return to France, he produced a large number of sculptures in a variety of materials. He was commissioned to create figures to adorn the bronze doors of the Musée d'Art Moderne in Paris for the 1937 International Exhibition. During this period, he freed himself of the forms that bear witness to Bourdelle's legacy. He participated in the decoration of the French Embassy in Ottawa, Canada, and took on several commissions: the high altar of Rouen Cathedral in 1955, the Monument au maréchal Leclerc (Le Mans, place Franklin Roosevelt) and bas-reliefs on building facades in Chambéry and Saint- Malo. A major retrospective of his work was held in 1984 at the Musée de la Marine in Paris.
