Christophe Fratin (1801-1864) - Lot 32
Christophe Fratin (1801-1864) Fratin by himself Bronze with brown patina Signed "FRATIN" on the back H. 20 cm While the self-portraits of 19th-century French artists are often tinged with complacency, Christophe Fratin represents himself in the form of a portrait-charge. The disproportionate limbs, grimacing facial expression and numerous animal attributes characterize this amusing portrait in the manner of the famous caricatures by his contemporary Edouard Dantan. Related literature : Michel Poletti, Alain Richarme, Fratin, objets déco- ratifs & sculptures romantiques, Paris, Univers du bronze, 2000, models listed under n°3 and 4, p. 15 and illustrated pp. 5-7.
