Italy, 2nd half 19th century after Benedetto Cacciatori (1794-1871) Pietà Ivory statuette. Soiling and accidents to fingers. H. 13.5 cm A CIC will be issued to the purchaser. Weight 513 g Related work: Benedetto Cacciatori, Pietà, 1837, Seyssel stone, Saint-Pierre-de-Curtille (Savoie), Hautecombe Abbey. Benedetto Cacciatori, a neoclassical sculptor from Carrara, was commissioned to create a large number of sculptures for the Hautecombe Abbey, which had been undergoing restoration since 1825 under the reign of Carlo Felice of Savoy. In this context, he created a Pietà, so successful that the model was reused in the Tempio San Sebastiano in Milan, as well as to adorn the sculptor's tomb in Milan's Monumental Cemetery.
