René LETOURNEUR (1898-1990) Reclining female nude 1955 Engraved limestone with highlighted pigments Monogrammed (lower left) : RL 43.5 x 85 x 4.5 cm For low-budget public commissions, René Letourneur uses salvaged slabs of soft stone, which have the advantage of being highly decorative. The precision of his line drawings is enhanced by the addition of pigments fixed in sodium silicate. A series of polychrome engraved stones was exhibited at the 1955 Salon d'Automne.
