Oriental-style senior officer's saber, chain guard, gilded brass crosspiece chased with a Gorgon's head with two olive-shaped quillons, ebony spindle carved with scales, pommel with lion's head; Oriental blade in faux damascus, with counter-edge; leather-covered wooden scabbard with metal stitching, two gilded brass fittings engraved with trophies of arms, stars, scrolls, an eagle and foliage, and two bosses adorned with a Gorgon's head, openwork sting; length 100 cm. (Hilt partly composite; blade very clean). Partly First-Empire period. Good condition.
