Senior officer's saber à la Marengo, chased and gilded brass chain guard, crossed with two large shield-shaped auricles representing the god of war Mars, two inverted quillons, one terminating in a ram's head, the other in the head of a fantastic animal holding in its mouth a snake used to hang the chain, pommel in the shape of a bearded man's head wearing a helmet, fluted mother-of-pearl plate spindle; curved blade, etched on one half with foliage and trophies, with, on one side, a cartouche marked: "SOUVENIR de Laforestrie à son oncle Getin"; gilded brass scabbard, entirely engraved with foliage, two trophies of arms, one in high relief bearing two cannons, four flags, a revolutionary pike surmounted by a Phrygian cap, in front of a Medusa head; cut and reperced brass sting; length 97 cm. (The chain-side pin has been restored). Probably from the Republic of Haiti, first third of the 19th century. Very good condition.
