TACHI, shinogi zukuri blade, with a groove on both sides running to the end of the nakago; nagasa: 68 cm; nakago signed Bizen Sukesada and dated one day in the 8th month of the 1st year of Tembun, i.e. 1532, end of the Muromachi period; later leather-covered tachi frame. Strong oxidation of the nakago. PROVENANCE: acquired by the current owner's great-grandfather, General Etienne de Villaret, then at the beginning of his career as military attaché to the Japanese embassy in Tokyo, at the end of the 19th century, and in the family by descent.
