Verdier, François. - Histoire de Samson dedicated to Messire Edouard Colbert. Paris, Chéreau, s.d. [c. 1700]. 1 vol. small oblong in-folio, waiting boards - Spine detached, plate 6 damaged and repaired (Samson's head missing), scattered freckles, soiling on frontispiece, first four and last five plates. Probably missing plate 39 - Unpaginated, frontispiece and 38 plates numbered 1 to 38. Plates 17 and 18 have been interchanged. A pupil of Charles Le Brun, Verdier (1651-1730) was one of his most faithful epigones, albeit without the genius. His suite de l'histoire de Samson was engraved by Benoit Audran, Charles Simonneau and Jean Baptiste Poilly, as well as by himself for four of the plates in the suite.
