Hélène Guastalla (1908 - 1983) Balance 1959 Black patina bronze Lost wax casting Valsuani founder's stamp on right leg Signed "Hélène Guastalla" on right leg 62 x 26 x 34 cm French sculptor Hélène Guastalla trained at the École des Beaux-Arts, then with sculptor Marcel Gimond (1894-1961). She exhibited several times in Paris, at the Rodin Museum (1966), the Antwerp Biennial and various Salons, including the Salon des Artistes Français from 1923, the Salon d'Automne, the Salon des Peintres Témoins de leur Temps and the Salon de la Jeune Sculpture from 1949. He had several solo exhibitions, notably at Galerie Charpentier in 1958. His works entered the collections of the Musée d'art moderne de la Ville de Paris. A brown patina bronze copy of Équilibre was acquired by the French State in 1959, and is now on deposit at the Musée Despiau-Wlérick in Mont-de-Marsan. In 1984, the Fondation de France deposited works from the artist's studio collection with the Musée d'Art et d'Histoire de la Ville de Meudon. The museum devoted an exhibition to the artist in 1986. This deposit was transformed into a donation in 2009.
