Émile Antoine Bourdelle (1861-1929) - Lot 64
Émile Antoine Bourdelle (1861-1929) Herakles with a doe Model created in 1910 Bronze with brown patina Bears the founder's mark "ALEXIS RUDIER FONDEUR PARIS". H. 63.5 cm At the 1910 Salon, Bourdelle triumphed with his archer Herakles. Building on this success, the sculptor turned his Greek hero into Herakles with a deer. He takes up the archaic face of his archer, but to treat the god's combat with the hind of Cerynia with feet of bronze, Bourdelle relaxes the tension of the body and offers us a Herakles whose combat seems to be transformed into an ancient dance with the animal. Six bronze proofs of this model are known to exist. Paris, Musée Bourdelle, October 4, 2017-February 4, 2018, Paris, Paris musées, 2017, model listed under Cat. 52, p. 121.
