Louis-Jules-Julien Franceschi (1825-1893) Andromeda, 1857 Bronze with double brown and gold patina Signed "J. FRANCESCHI / statuaire". H. 65 cm A student of François Rude, Jules Franceschi made his debut at the Salon of 1848. In addition to the many public commissions he received, he was renowned for his portraits of contemporary art celebrities, such as Jacques Offenbach and Charles Gounod. He also exhibited a number of mythological subjects at the Salon, including this beautiful Andromeda, the stone original of which was exhibited in 1859.
