SE 5, p. 81. A refugee in London during the 1870 war, during which the Auteuil studio was partly destroyed by bombing, Carpeaux produced several statuette models, including this Eve after the Sin. Executed after his return from exile, our example is a fine example of the Atelier d'Au- teuil's terracotta production. Carpeaux reorganized the already famous workshop on rue Boileau where, having acquired a kiln, he now managed every stage in the manufacture of these terracotta statuettes. The process was now perfectly perfected, from the selection and mixing of the clay, to the firing and the pa- tine. Carpeaux mastered and supervised every stage of this art of the multiple.
