Located lower left Fabrica anticha sopra una collina nell bajo di Mola / detto il rempio di Giano 19. 43 x 36.5 cm Painter and engraver Carlo Labruzzi began working with English travelers on the Grand Tour in the 1780s. In 1789, for example, he accompanied Sir Richard Colt Hoare on his project to follow the Via Appia along the route laid out by the poet Horace in 38 BC. Labruzzi was commissioned to design the ancient ruins and villas along the route. The project was not completed, but Labruzzi did produce 226 watercolors bound in 5 volumes for Hoare. A second, less accomplished series, probably preparatory drawings, also exists.
