In 1789, for example, he accompanied Sir Richard Colt Hoare on his project to follow the Via Appia along the route laid out by the poet Horace in 38 BC. Labruzzi was commissioned to design the ancient ruins and villas along the route. The project was not completed, but Labruzzi did produce 226 watercolors bound in 5 volumes for Hoare. A second, less accomplished series, probably preparatory drawings, also exists.
