Maurice Prost (1894-1967) Reclining panther Model created in 1927 Stoneware of Sèvres Signed " M PROST " on the terrace Bears the stamp " SEVRES Manufacture Nationale France " and the initials " GT " and " HE ". H. 14,5 cm, terrace 43 x 8 cm Maurice Prost trained in chasing in the workshop of the goldsmith Gauthier in Paris. Despite the loss of his left arm during the First World War, the young artist specialized in direct carving and animal sculpture. He models with plastiline the animals, in particular wild animals, that he observes at the Jardin des Plantes where he meets Georges-Lucien Guyot, Roger Godchaux and Armand Petersen. From 1922 onwards, he regularly exhibited his works at the Salon des Artistes français as well as at the Salon d'Automne, the Salon des Artistes Indépendants and the Salon des Animaliers. Between 1932 and 1938, he made several models for the Manufacture Nationale de Sèvres which were published in stoneware.
