Louis-Jules-Julien Franceschi (1825-1893) Andromeda, 1857 Bronze with double brown and gold patina Signed " J. FRANCESCHI / statuary H. 65 cm A student of François Rude, Jules Franceschi made his debut at the 1848 Salon. In addition to the numerous public commissions he received, he was renowned for his portraits of celebrities from the world of contemporary art, such as those of Jacques Offenbach or Charles Gounod. He also presented a number of mythological subjects at the Salon, among them this beautiful Andro- mède, the original of which in stone was exhibited in 1859.
