Maurice CROZET (1896-1978) The docks Oil on canvas. Signed lower left. 38 x 46 cm MAURICE CROZET : The painter and poster artist Maurice Crozet (1896-1978) was active in various fields of decorative arts. After studying at the Beaux-Arts in Geneva, he turned to the creation of fabrics and wallpapers, developed projects for the glass industry and began to create screens and vases that he designed for the Manufacture de Sèvres. The artist befriended the influential fashion designer Paul Poiret (of whom he painted several portraits) and who introduced him to the great names of Art Deco such as Josef Hoffmann, Gustav Klimt, or the decorator Paul Iribe. He exhibited in many Parisian salons from 1920, as well as at the International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts in 1925. Maurice Crozet's painting is marked by the Art-deco style, which advocates a return to simple lines, elegant compositions and sobriety. He executed numerous views of Paris and paintings of landscapes observed during his travels on the French Riviera, in Brittany or in Morocco. His talent as a draughtsman and his instinct as a colorist give these works a very particular aesthetic emotion tinged with romanticism and definitely poetic. On February 1, 1982, Me Claude Robert dispersed the contents of the "Maurice Crozet" studio at Drouot.
