Roger GODCHAUX (1878-1958) Derby du Midi, 1944 Bronze with a brown-green patina. Signed Roger Godchaux and bears the mark of the founder Susse Frs Eds Paris. Bears the mention Cire Perdue. Titled Derby du Midi / 1944 in a cartouche on the black marble base of Belgium. Roger Godchaux was a student of Jules Adler and later of Jean-Léon Gérôme. In 1925, the jury of the Exposition des Arts décoratifs et industriels modernes awarded him a silver medal. When he died in 1958 at the age of 80, he had spent more than fifty years of his life representing the animal in all the attitudes observed in everyday life.
